Officine Panerai created the avantgarde prototype Radiomir watch in 1936, and over the next two years perfected a pioneer timepiece that could meet the high standards of the Italian Navy's 'Black Seal' divers. Now, with the contemporary Radiomir Black Seal 8 Days Acciaio, Panerai presents the successor to the legendary model. Housed in a polished 45 millimeter stainless steel case, this exquisite reference is powered by a P.5000 calibre mechanical movement with 192 hours of authonomy. And this is just a beggining.
Legendary Guido Panerai developed new divers’ watches for the Italian navy on the eve of Second World War. With his Radiomir model, he managed to make it possible to read the time even in poor light conditions. This was due to the luminous dial, developed by unforgettable inventor, which contained radium. Hence the name Radiomir. Nowadays, Officine Panerai uses Super-LumiNova® as the luminous material. This is indicated on the dial with the letter “L”.
Largely unchanged since its inception, this Black Seal version has a large cushion-shaped stainless steel case and luminescent Arabic numerals and indices set against a signature black sandwich dial. That visual touch ensure high visibility in low light and below the surface of water. It represents one of the purest Panerai designs available that combines many desirable aesthetic traits along with a comfortable fit on the wrist. This elegant Radiomir has diameter 45 millimeter wide, but is also surprisingly wearable with its 12 millimeters of thickness. Elegant as always, the Radiomir case is entirely polished with a domed sapphire crystal. It's powered by a superb P.5000 calibre mechanical movement with unprecedented 8-day power reserve.
The calibre P.5000 with a power reserve of eight days combines two characteristics which are part of the history of Panerai watches since the first models created for the elite divers of the Italian Navy - being manual wound and having an 8-day power reserve. With a diameter of 35.7 mm and a thickness of 4.5 mm, the P.5000 is composed of 127 parts and 21 jewels. Officine Panerai has built a glass back onto the case of the Radiomir Black Seal 8 Days. This gives you a clear view of the beautiful-looking calibre P.5000. The Radiomir Black Seal 8 Days features the traditional gold Monte Carlo calf strap contrast stitching. Finally, this is just a perfect watch for those who cherish superb vintage appearance without compromising on power reserve.
