The original Panerai Luminor design laid the foundation for an unprecedented versatility in design language that has over the decades become the aesthetics base for the impressive variety of timepieces being made by Panerai in the recent era.
The stainless steel Panerai Luminor 1950 left-handed 3 Days Acciaio is a new interpretation of the company’s historic left handed watches especially developed for use underwater.
This Panerai Luminor left-handed 3 Days looks like a typical member of the Luminor family.
As the name already reveals, the case is 47 mm in diameter. The crown and iconic crown protector are now positioned on the left side of the case, making it more easy for left-handed people to wind the watch and adjust the time.
The reason for this choice lies in the history of Panerai, which more than seven decades ago produced examples designed for underwater explorers who preferred to wear the watch on the right wrist, with the compass and depth gauge on the left side.
The most eye-catching feature of this mechanical wristwatch is its integrated winding crown which is placed at 9 o’clock, opposite the normal 3 o’clock position. The left-hander watch reminds us of the company’s tradition as supplier to the Italian navy divers.
The case itself pays homage to the traditional form, with another speciality - the sandwich dial: the fluorescent Super-LumiNova® is placed between the two disks. The large sandwich dial has large Arabic 12, 3, 6, 9 numbers and hour baton markers.
Renowed AISI 316L 1.4435 stainless steel is Officine Panerai’s material par excellence, since it is highly resistant to corrosion and is hypoallergenic, which makes it ideal for contact with the skin. The Panerai watches created for the Italian Navy were made of first-class stainless steel, a reliable material that was also resistant to the extreme environmental conditions in which the underwater commandos operated.
The P.3000 calibre, created entirely at the Panerai Manufacture, presents the main characteristics of the Panerai movements in terms of structure and robustness, accuracy and power reserve. The 5.3mm thick movement has 160 parts, a Glucydur® balance wheel, an Incabloc® shock absorption.
The calibre is immediately recognisable by its construction, which ensure the delivery of a more even force over a longer period of time, with a power reserve of three days. The movement also has 21 jewels. This movement is hand-wound, giving you a opportunity to interact with that crown and crown protector.
