The new millennium’s most precious and indeed most surprising Tudor watch has made its debut with the Black Bay Fifty-Eight 18K: crafted from solid 18ct yellow gold with an open case back – both feats being an absolute first in a Tudor divers’ watch. Collectors of fine watches and fans of Tudor will certainly have their interests piqued by this double-curiousity, a rare constellation of two important firsts in the lifetime of a staple collection. Today we have the pleasure to bring a closer look at this fascinating timekeeper.

A positively surprising new detail is the matt green dial that works beautifully in tandem with the iconic snowflake hour hand and indices

Crafted from solid 18ct yellow gold, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight 18K truly is the first Tudor divers’ watch ever to have a case in this lustrous precious metal. With its classically proportioned exterior that measures 39 millimeters in diameter, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight serves as the perfect base for such an exquisite and luxurious rendition.

Considering long-term collectability, its timeless size, beautiful proportions and purposeful design will perpetually be appreciated as the core values of Tudor’s dive watches dating all the way back to the 1950s.

Timeless elegance radiates from the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight 18K’s perfect proportions and use of satin finished solid 18ct yellow gold

In line with those fundamental values, this stunning iteration of the Black Bay Fifty-Eight also boasts a water resistance rating of 200 meters, courtesy of its robust case construction and screw-down crown – both of which having remained part of the 18K variant, despite its precious 18ct yellow gold exterior.

A unidirectional rotatable bezel in 18ct yellow gold, with a 60-minute graduated disc in matt green anodized aluminium and gold gilded markings and numerals, completes the look, making for a tasteful, yet energetic combination of satin gold and rich green.

The yellow gold case back features an expansive sapphire crystal window that exhibits the Tudor MT5400 caliber, a highly modern and accurate manufacture movement

The yellow gold case back features an expansive sapphire crystal window that exhibits the Manufacture Tudor MT5400 caliber. As it is with every Black Bay Fifty-Eight model, each movement is individually tested and certified by the independent chronometer testing institute, COSC, allowing for a maximum average daily running variation between -4 and +6 seconds. However, once the watch is fully assembled, Tudor insists on each piece performing to a yet more stringent -2/+4 second variation.

Tudor’s all-encompassing in-house quality control procedures, combined with a 5-year warranty, testify to the superb engineering that defines the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight 18K.

Tudor also recommends that its watches should be serviced approximately every 10 years depending on the model and the extent of its use on a day-to-day basis.

Further proof to the refinement of this Manufacture Calibre MT5400 is its thin profile – just 5mm thick – that is nevertheless combined with an extended, weekend-lasting power reserve of approximately 70 hours, replenished by a self-winding system whenever the watch is actively worn on the wrist.

This timepiece is equipped with a pair of included straps – a brown alligator strap and a green-gold fabric strap, both fitted with matching 18ct gold clasps

The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight 18K comes on a domed dark brown alligator strap with an 18ct yellow gold buckle, with an additional green fabric strap with gold-colored band and 18ct yellow gold buckle also included in the box.
