 PSA & CITES
PSA & CITES

Panerai has started monitoring the sources of leather used in the production of its straps, responding to a precise request by the Protection Suisse Des Animaux (PSA). PSA has increased awareness among watchmaking brands related to an important ethical issue of animal exploitation.

The brand respects the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The aim of CITES is to guarantee that the survival of endangered species is not threatened by commercial operations.

The leather used for Panerai alligator straps comes from farms in Louisiana, USA, the farms which guarantee the exclusive use of alligators treated according to CITES regulations. In this way, they are contributing to constant growth in the number of wild alligators placing about 15% of animals back into their natural habitat.

Our boutiques
Our boutiques

Officine Panerai has begun using wood that respects the protection of the eco-system and the conservation of limited resources for the wooden panels and numerous other elements in its boutiques. Suppliers must guarantee that wood production and processing activities comply with local legislation and environmental norms, and that such activities are in harmony with the environment.

LED lighting, functional and reliable, requiring approximately 80% less energy than traditional light bulbs, is lasting much longer and does not contain toxic materials. Having all these into consideration, Panerai boutiques were designed and built using this low energy consumption and a high level of environmental sustainability.

 COMMUNICATION MATERIAL
COMMUNICATION MATERIAL

Panerai has begun producing catalogues, brochures, warranties, invitations and instruction booklets on FSC® certified paper, the suppliers of which are committed to very strict policies for the protection of the environment.

Officine Panerai partners have adopted very high standards of control over the origin of the paper used for printing and the environmental impact of such activities, guaranteeing the use of eco-friendly materials including ink.

Manufacturing
Manufacturing

After ten years from the inauguration of its Neuchâtel Manufacture, Officine Panerai presented the new production plant where all the activities concerning the development, production and assembly of the movements and the watches were transferred. The new production site is the most ambitious project opened at the end of 2013, representing an extraordinary opportunity for the optimisation of production processes both in terms of quantity and quality. The new Panerai plant has zero environmental impact in terms of production of carbon dioxide, thanks to the number of technologies designed to reclaim and recycle resources. They promote eco-sustainable mobility among employees as well.

A few examples of how the new manufacture satisfies the zero impact requirements are following: the water used in production processes is reused for cleaning and in the cooling systems, the energy produced by the machinery is reused in the heating system, a state-of-the-art heat pump system permits optimisation of the energy produced by both the heating and cooling systems.

The aim is to keep building standards that permit rational use of energy and extensive use of renewable energy, as well to reduce the impact on the environment of large production sites consequently.
