Rolex & Formula 1® 70th Anniversary Grand Prix

Rolex is a major force at play behind the finest events, drivers and organizations across a wide spectrum of disciplines, including motor sport. Both entities are renowned, loved and respected the world over for their enduring quest for excellence through continuous improvement and innovation — the very underpinnings of Rolex and the very best of Formula 1® alike.

Sir Malcolm Campbell

The long-standing partnership between Rolex and motor sport dates back to the quest for speed in the 1930s when Sir Malcolm Campbell broke the 300 mph (482 km/h) barrier at the wheel of Bluebird at Bonneville. He was wearing a Rolex during the high-speed runs, many of which took place at Daytona Beach, a hub for land speed records and dubbed the “birthplace of speed.”

The ties between Rolex and Formula 1® have bonded together forever when Scotsman Sir Jackie Stewart, a Formula 1® legend, has become a proud Rolex Testimonee in 1968.

One of the most celebrated Formula 1® drivers of all time, is not only a three-time world champion (1969, 1971 and 1973) but also the winner of 27 out of 99 Grand Prix races.

He is also widely recognized for his pioneering commitment to driver safety in Formula 1® during the 1970s, which has had a lasting impact on motor sport.

Formula 1® marks its 70th anniversary in 2020 and will honour the occasion during the second race at Silverstone Circuit (UK) over the weekend of 7–9 August. The track famously hosted the first Formula 1® Grand Prix in 1950 and the event provides an opportunity for the sport to reflect on its rich history, the legends who have paved the way for future generations and its ongoing technological advancements.
