Rolex has once again acted as the Title Sponsor of last weekend’s Formula 1 Rolex Magyar Nagydíj. Held at the fully packed Hungaroring where F1 fans from around the world gathered, the Rolex clock by the pit exit has accurately defined the beginning of every session, including the launch of the formation lap that led to the action-packed start of the 2019 Formula 1 Rolex Magyar Nagydíj.
Among the valued guests of Rolex at the Paddock Club situated directly above the pit lane was Sir Jackie Stewart, three-time Formula 1 World Champion and the longest-standing Rolex Testimonee of them all, having celebrated his 50th Rolex anniversary last year. On Friday, following his visit to Paddock Club and giving Rolex’s very own guests a guided tour around the paddocks, Sir Jackie Stewart has graced our special cocktail event held at the Authorized Rolex Petite Geneve Petrovic boutique at Andrássy út 10.
In 1971, Sir Jackie Stewart received the title of Officer to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and, in 2001, received a knighthood for his services to motor racing.
Having raced for such historic teams as BRM, Matra, March and Tyrell, Sir Stewart is the Formula 1 World Champion of the years 1969, 1971 and 1973, and has 27 wins, 43 podiums and 17 pole positions to his name.
Beyond his mighty impressive performance on the race track, which have earned him the fitting nickname of “The Flying Scot,” Sir Stewart has been instrumental in improving the safety of motor racing, campaigning for better medical facitilites and track improvements — those improved facilities at the Hungaroring were the ones that have saved the life of Felipe Massa after his high-impact crash at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Sir Stewart has absolutely incredible stories to tell, all stemming from his life-long dedication to motor sport. Having raised multiple generations of drivers and been close to the adrenaline-fueled world of Formula 1, he has been an emblematic figure.
In 1966, after qualifying for the 500-mile Indianapolis race on the first day, then-rookie driver Sir Jackie Stewart rewarded himself with a Rolex Day-Date in 18k gold. His love for Rolex was there from the start. It marked an auspicious beginning to an enduring relationship. For fifty years, Sir Stewart and Rolex have been on a shared quest for performance excellence. Their efforts have taken them to the pinnacle of human and mechanical endeavour. They are bound by a legacy that has helped shape the past, present and future of motor sport.
