For the third consecutive year, Rolex creates a space of its own on Oscar Night®. In a similar fashion to how films create new universes, Rolex transports its Greenroom guests to its own world in a contemporary cottage high up in the Swiss mountains. Located backstage at the Dolby Theatre, where the Oscars® ceremony has been held since 2002, guests in the Greenroom will be surrounded by the Rolex atmosphere, in complete contrast to the outside metropolis of Los Angeles.
In its newest campaign, Rolex has gathered four exceptional Oscar-winning filmmakers, who are also proud testimonees of the brand. Rolex is proud to support masters of cinema - Oscar-winning directors Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Kathryn Bigelow and Alejandro G. Ińárritu, as they continue to push the boundaries of the art of filmmaking. As the most influential filmmakers in the world, all four share exactly the same values of Rolex company.
Martin Scorsese is a towering figure in the history of cinema, a director with a career spanning 50 years and as many films– many of which are considered among the greatest ever made. Scorsese is widely regarded as one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of the art form. He redefined the ideas of what was possible in movies with such classics as Mean Streets (1973), Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980) and Goodfellas (1990). Scorsese’s unique combination of artistry, charisma and generosity continues to inspire filmmakers and audiences all over the world.
The first and only woman to win an Academy Award for Best Director, Kathryn Bigelow’s command of visual narrative, her tenacity and her choice of subjects that have the ability to provoke change, have redefined the landscape of cinema today. The American director also acts as producer and writer for many of her films. Her subsequent films solidified her position as a Hollywood heavyweight with the political action-thrillers the Hurt Locker (2008) and Zero Dark Thirty (2012), both of which earned her Oscar nominations. Her films provoke an examination of the politics that surround us, and have established the director as a true auteur.
The winner of two consecutive Oscars for Best Director - Birdman (2015) and The Revenant (2016), Alejandro G. Ińárritu is known for his exploration of the human condition, coupled with his visual style, which have established him as a force to be reckoned with. Alejandro G. Ińárritu’s films often feature interconnected stories and a nonlinear narrative, a realm where time is manufactured and plays a paramount role.
James Cameron is an acclaimed filmmaker and explorer. As director, writer and producer he is responsible for some of the most memorable films of the past three decades: The Terminator (1984), Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989), Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991), Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009). His films have blazed new trails in visual effects and set numerous performance records. Most notably, Titanic received 14 Academy Award nominations and won 11 Oscars, both records, including Cameron's three Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Editing. Nevertheless, Cameron has worn a Rolex for several decades. Also, Rolex watches appear organically in his films.
